The photos are part of the collections of the National Museum of Romanian History, of the Museum of National History and Archeology of Constanța and in the gallery of the Blog Vechiul Regat. There are photographs and postcards, most dated between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, which illustrate scenes of everyday life in the towns and villages of Dobruja, inhabited by Turks and Tartars, portraits of them, architecture and religious life: the mosques and moments in the history of Islamic education in Dobruja, especially of the Muslim Seminary in Medgidia.
The images from the collections of the National Museum of History of Romania are acquisitions and donations from individuals and institutions. Some of them were extracted from the volume Dobruja – 50 years of Romanian life, volume of the magazine Annals of Dobruja, published in 1928, which includes photos with images from all over Dobruja: landscapes, churches, schools, streets, faces of different Dobrujan ethnic groups, including Turks and Tartars.
The photographs in the patrimony of the National Museum of Romanian History were taken by photographers Anatole Magrin (1858-1928) and Kurt Hielscher (1881-1948), at the end of the 19th century – beginning of the 20th century, in the context of their diplomatic and professional travels in Romania. Some of the exhibited photos are in the private collection of Irina and Ernest Oberländer-Târnoveanu.
